Dubai · Guide for brands, marketing teams and agencies

“On social, the first second is the ad. Everything after it has to earn the next one.”

Social media video production in Dubai means making content for a phone held upright, watched with the sound off as often as on, by an audience that scrolls fast and expects polish. Brands here post Instagram Reels and TikTok content alongside billboards, launches and Ramadan campaigns, often from the same shoot. This guide covers the formats that work, how to shoot vertical-first, the UAE rules creators and brands must follow, a sensible posting rhythm and the seasonal timing, using real Dubai work for Charlotte Tilbury, Damas, Affiliate World x Shinz and L'Officiel Baltic.

01 · Formats

The social video formats brands in Dubai actually use

Most brand accounts run on a handful of repeatable formats. Decide which ones you need before the shoot, because each one asks for different shots.

FormatLengthExample from Dubai

02 · Vertical-first

Shoot for 9:16 from the start

A Reel cropped from a wide film usually looks like one: heads cut, product pushed to the edge, empty space at the top and bottom. The Damas x Dome BTS and the Celine Winter '22 film work because the frames were composed for a tall screen: one subject, centred, filling the height.

01

One subject per frame

A face, a ring, a bottle. A tall frame has no room for two ideas side by side.

02

Mind the safe zones

Keep faces and products away from the bottom and right edges, where captions and buttons sit.

03

Vertical moments on purpose

Walks towards camera, full-length looks and tilts up a gown are made for 9:16.

04

Plan both shapes

If the brand also needs 16:9, shoot both on purpose rather than cropping one from the other.

The full method is in shooting vertical-first without ruining the horizontal.

03 · Hooks

The first second decides everything

Two kinds of opening frame: the product, close and tactile, or a look that makes you stop.

The Charlotte Tilbury billboard BTS opens on the set being built: a plain flat, then paint, then stars. Within seconds the viewer wants to know what it is for. That is a hook built from footage rather than text. A few reliable openings:

The result first. Show the finished look or the hero frame, then go back to how it was made.

The product in hand. Texture, a lid coming off, a ring catching light.

Movement. A gown turning, a drone moving through a room, a sparkler lighting up.

A question on screen. Short, readable, answered by the video.

Captions matter as much as the picture: many people watch muted. The Charlotte Tilbury BTS carries its narration as on-screen words for exactly that reason.

04 · Events

Event content: one night, a week of posts

A cocktail being poured at the bar, Affiliate World x Shinz closing party at Bla Bla Dubai

Details like a cocktail pour make strong opening frames for a vertical recap.

The Affiliate World x Shinz closing party at Bla Bla Dubai became a one-minute horizontal recap and a vertical Short that leans on the lasers, the dancers and the view of Ain Dubai, all of which work centred in a tall frame. For an event, plan the vertical cut as a separate deliverable, and get a handful of clips out the same night while people are still posting. The night is broken down in the Shinz event film case study.

An FPV flight through an event inside a Dubai tower: one move that shows the whole room.

An FPV drone gives a different kind of social clip: one flowing move from the entrance to the runway that no handheld camera can match. Indoors it needs the venue's permission, a clear flight path and guests who know it's happening; the safety side is in FPV for weddings and events and the rules in drone rules for paid shoots in the UK and Dubai.

05 · The rules

UAE Advertiser Permit, releases and disclosure

Since 1 February 2026, anyone publishing promotional content in the UAE, paid or unpaid, needs an Advertiser Permit from the UAE Media Council. For brands, that means checking the permit of every creator or presenter who posts your content from their own account. The detail is in the UAE Advertiser Permit guide.

Creators. Ask for the permit number before you brief them.

People on camera. Signed releases for anyone featured clearly. In the UAE, filming and publishing people without consent is taken seriously; see model release forms.

Locations. Malls, hotels and public places need permission, and the shoot may need a permit: Dubai photoshoot permit guide.

Labels. Mark paid partnerships the way each platform requires.

06 · Rhythm and timing

Posting rhythm and the Dubai calendar

A steady rhythm beats a burst. Shooting in batches makes that possible: one well-planned day can feed a month of posts (the method is in how to shoot a month of social content in one day).

WhenWhat to post
Before a launchTeasers and BTS from the shoot, without giving away the hero frame
Launch weekThe campaign cut, the hero product video, creator content
AfterThe making-of, product how-tos and the cut-downs that performed best, re-edited
OngoingA repeatable format each week: a product, a person, a place

The calendar matters as much as the rhythm. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, which means Ramadan and Eid content is shot in December and January and approved before February; the timeline is in the Ramadan and Eid campaign planning guide. The rest of the season, from autumn launches to winter events, is in the Dubai events season calendar.

FAQ

Common questions

What does social media video production include?

Planning formats, shooting vertical-first, editing short cuts with captions for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, and delivering versions for paid and organic posts, often alongside the brand's campaign or event shoot.

How long should an Instagram Reel be for a brand?

Most brand Reels work at 15 to 30 seconds, with BTS and event recaps up to about a minute. The first second matters most, so open on the strongest image.

Do brands in Dubai need permits for social media content?

Creators publishing promotional content in the UAE need an Advertiser Permit from the UAE Media Council, and shoots in public places, hotels and malls need permission and may need a permit.

Can one shoot produce content for both a campaign and social?

Yes, if it's planned: shoot vertical moments on purpose, film BTS as its own deliverable and agree every format and length before the day.
